If you are traveling to the Schengen Area you must have Schengen Visa Insurance
Schengen Area Explained:
The Schengen Area covers most of the states in the European Unions as well as some countries not included in the EU such as Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, and Lichtenstein. The Schengen area permits free movement of trade, labor, and capital across all borders, boasting hundreds of airports, and over 400 million people.
To enter the Schengen Area coming from most countries you are required to have a Schengen Visa. There are however exceptions to this rule; some countries do not need a Visa to enter the Schengen Area. For a complete list of countries that need a visa in the Schengen Area look here.
The Schengen area includes these countries: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Schengen Visa’s:
There are three different types of Schengen Visa’s.
The Uniform Schengen Visa is the most restrictive visa. There are two types of this Visa. The first category is the “A” group; this stands for Airport Transit Visa. This visa is required for a non-Schengen citizen to travel through the international airports in the Schengen Area. The second category is the “C” group which permits short-term stays in a specific Schengen country.
The Limited Territorial Validity Visa allows visiting a particular country in the Schengen Area. Travel in any other Schengen Country is not permitted on this Visa.
The National Visa is intended for people who are working, studying or moving to the Schengen Area. This visa gives the recipient the ability to travel to any country in the Schengen Area.

Schengen Visa Insurance:
If traveling from a nation that requires that you have a visa, it is also mandated that you purchase travel insurance that meets Schengen Visa insurance requirements. Most non-US citizens will need the Visa, and the Schengen visa insurance. US Citizens traveling to the Schengen area for more than 90 days will also need the visa and the insurance.
In order to have your visa approved, you will need to have already purchased Schengen visa insurance

Coverage Required for Schengen Visa Insurance:
- Your policy must be valid for the same time as your stay in the Schengen region.
- Your policy reimburses you for the costs of accidents, illnesses, emergency treatment.
- Your policy covers repatriation of your remains in the case of death.
- Your policy covers emergency medical evacuation.
- Your policy provides you with a minimum coverage of at least €30,000 (or a dollar equivalent of about $35,500 as of Sept 2021).
- Your policy covers you in all Schengen area countries.
It’s important that you have proof of coverage that meets these requirements. Schengen countries won’t approve of your visa until after you provide proof of coverage.
We recommend a $0 deductible (sometimes called “excess” in Europe). We make this recommendation because many Schengen countries require the $0 excess, and they don’t always tell visa applicants that in their listed requirements.
